Karen Bolin
Career:
Karen graduated from University of Texas El Paso with a B.B.A. in Computer Information Systems.  She worked at Texas Instrument as a Software Systems Analyst for three years.  Her previous job experience includes movie theater Manager for AMC Theatres, and Payroll Clerk at UTEP, while finishing her degree.  Currently she is a homemaker and personal assistant to Melody.

Personal:
Karen was raised in El Paso, Tx in a close knit family.  She has one son, Tony, who she raised alone and with the help of her family.  In 1994, Karen was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and Myasthenia Gravis, both immune system disorders.  Her health has prevented her from working outside the home, but she is still plays a vital role  in keeping the house running smoothly.  Karen is openly out to her family and close friends.    Her hobbies include cooking, crafts and home improvement projects when her health allows for it.

Involvement in the Book:
Karen will do the writting for the book and any marketing material.  She will be editing the stories for the featured couples, provide market research for the book and help edit the web pages.  She will also be in charge of the financial aspects of the book. 
About the Couple (Karen & Melody)
Relationship:
Karen and Melody have been together for three years.  They met on an online message board, and had a long distance relationship for a year and half while Karen's son finished high school.  They currently live together with their 4 black cats and 1 Shih-Tzu dog.  A website showing many of their experiences as a lesbian couple can be found at http://www.karenandmelody.com.  For the past 2 years, the couple have funded their own GLBT themed scholarship called the KarMel Scholarship.  The scholarship gives grants to students furthering their education based on their written or artistic talents.  More information on the scholarship can be found at http://www.karenandmelody.com/KarMelScholarship.html.
Melody Liu
Career:
Melody graduated from UC Berkeley with a B.S. in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering.  For five years, she has worked in various high tech companies such as Visa, Cisco, PlanetRx.com and Mosaic Industries as a Marketing Director, Project Manger and Business Analyst.  In October 2003, Melody decided to take a break from the high tech industry to pursue some of her interests.   She worked at Sears Photo Studio, as a photographer, over the holidays and worked as an intern at Wolfe Video, a GLBT film distribution company.  Currently, she is back at Cisco as an IT Analyst.

Personal:
Melody came out three years ago to her family and friends, and all have been supporitve.  In her spare time, Melody likes to come up with various new, GLBT related projects or participate in various GLBT events in the community. 

Involvement in the Book:
Melody came up with the concept for this book.  She put together a business plan to start the project.  Melody will be involved in the marketing and  will be conducting the interviews for this book.  She may be involved in taking photographs of  the couples that will be featured in the book.  Melody also designed and implemented  this website.
