Day 5: Carmel - 17Mile Drive
Back to Home Page.
After our day of rest, it was back on the road and out around the Bay Area.  This time we headed south towards  Monetery and Carmel.  This is a very scenic drive on a sunny day.  We, of course, had lots of fog but it was still beautiful to see the ocean!
One of the many scenic lookout points along Seventeen Mile Drive.  The waves hitting the rocks cuts out some interesting formations.
This is the famous "Cypress Tree" on the Seventeen Mile Drive in Monterey.  While Melody still doesn't get it, it's supposed to represent one tree's determination to stand against all odds and survive.
Quite poetic actually!
The only sunbathers you are going to see along this stretch of beach.  It's just too cold to actually sunbath along the coast.
This is know as Seal Island.  Lots of seals come here to have their babies each year.  Depending on the time of year, the rock can be so crowded it actually seems to just be a big pile of seals!
The waves rolling in along a stretch of beach in Carmel.
Seventeen Mile Drive is part of the Peeble Beach Golf Course which has several holes that are right along the ocean.  Hmm..maybe golf isn't so bad after all!
Karen and Melody resting on a rock.  You can see the fog was pretty thick.  Not much sun was out, but Melody still had those sunglasses on.
I guess the sun is always shining on her!
Karen and Mom with the ocean as a back drop.  Isn't this a lovely picture?
Of course I am talking about the ocean!
The ocean, the waves, the beautiful rock formations...they are why this drive is such a pleasant journey!
The drive down Highway 1 hugs the coastline.  You can stop just about anywhere and look down the cliffs to the beautiful blue ocean below.  Most of the beaches are clean as they aren't accessible.
  It's a one way trip!
