 “Don’t Look at Me Different”

By Jonathan Moore

Desciption of Submission: My Dad suddenly asked me one night if I was Gay and I answered yes. He acted as I would be a different person and it worried me when it was time to approach other family members.

Don’t look at me negative because I told you Dad

You asked – So I told you yes.

Don’t frown, don’t swear, don’t make fun of, don’t laugh

I answered, now treat me your best.

Don’t look at me different Dad.

I wasn’t prepared to tell you Dad

You asked, I answered, and now you’re sad

But this isn’t a change

It’s who I am

Don’t look at me different Dad.

Don’t cry, it’s going to be okay Mom

I’m fine, I’m ok, and ‘m yours to stay

Nothings changed, I’m fine

I’ll always be by your side

Don’t look at me different Mom

I didn’t know this was going to be like this Mom

Your tears are making me blue

I’m gay and nothing can change that way

It runs in the family – yes, it’s true

Don’t look at me different Mom.
