“The Irony of it All” By Ashley

Desciption of Submission: This is a truly sad story about two
star crossed lovers who meet their fate. It is not meant to be a depressing
story. However, it is meant to show a few of the things most of us GLBT people
must go through in order to be in love. This story includes a lot of Symbolism
and truths that are stretched into characters. For example, The dogs are the
media and the words i choose were actually words that were said to me by fellow
students and my own parents. Just remember to see it as symbolism and try to
find as much as you can.
The
Cloaked girl ran through the forest. Faster and faster her legs moved. The pain
of her feet was nothing compared to the pain of her heart. The cruel words the
crowds had said. “Freak, “Monster”, and harmful words like these replayed in
her mind over and over again. No lapse in time or wandering thought could save
her mind from the beating of these words. A single tear ran down her cheek as a
drop of rain hit her lips in unison. They were both cold and icy like the night
air.
The rain began to fall harder, along with her tears
as she fumbled her way under the looming branches and over the leaf covered
terrain. The brilliant light of lighting lit up the sky at random intervals
revealing the danger behind her. With every clash of thunder she ran deeper and
deeper into the woods, trying to hide herself from the dogs at her feet.
Suddenly she felt a tug on her cloak
and heard a faint whisper of her name. But she was too afraid to stop. No, she
must keep going. More and more tugs came now, slowing her down and ripping the
cloak off her back. Finally determined to shake off the demon at her feet she
turned fiercely hoping to scare it off. But when she looked over her shoulder,
it was no demon that she saw. Instead there was an angel. In her confusion she
must have passed the place they were supposed to meet. This angel had been torn
from the sky. Her hair had been tarnished and was now black as ebony from the
mud and the rain. Her clothes had been torn and cuts decorated her soft pale
skin. Once the now uncloaked girl realized it was her beaten lover she now
gazed upon she quickly stopped the struggle. She slowly and quietly lowered
herself to the ground the hold her dear angel. Together they now laid, awaiting their infamous destiny. The seconds seemed
like minutes and with each minute the dogs grew closer and closer. The cold was
stinging their skin and the wind pushed the pain further into their hearts. They
accepted that they could not escape and that their love was worth this agony. They
leaned into each others arms, using their last bit of energy for one last kiss.
Torches can be seen now, lighting up the night sky.
They flicker in the rain, which has now slowed to a trickle. A large man with a
rather stout face was leading the angry mob to the women, carrying a lynch over his arm. His words seemed to poison the air as
he shouted “witches!” at the top of his lungs, hoping that they would confess
their hiding place.
Soon they stumbled upon the girls, still and cold.
The leader went to capture the angel, but when he rolled her off the uncloaked
girl, her eyes were already glazed. She now lays there in eternal sleep. Her
mouth had dried and her clothes were drenched. The mob laughed and turned
around, heading straight for home. But one of the men could not leave for it
was his daughter that had fallen from grace. He faced her now motionless body
and regretted all that he had done. And so he carried the girls to their
rightful tree, the place they had been found together just a few nights
previous to this horrible day. He said his peace and let her be. There they now
rest in peace forever together as they should have been. No longer afraid and
no longer hated. God embraced them as they were just as the bible says and
allowed them to live together in happiness for eternity in heaven.
