I look away for fear of perception

They look at me and sense my truth

One breath taken in awe of you

            And I’m open to raillery.

No secret could ever give more fear of tension

No mockery would give this kind of tortured youth

But one trip, one slip of sure-foot hooves

Can finally give me space to breathe

            Oh who am I kidding?

Things like that just don’t fall to me

            I’m not that lucky

So I’ll just bide my time in misery

I can’t reach out with the arms that long to hold you close to me

They’re trapped inside, victims of the game we call society

But even if I could with no consequences, I would leave you be

I’m assuming you’re not to be had, at least not by me

But assumption is the excuse for not going after our dreams

When can I wash away this deception?

When can my honest self shine through –

            With no fear of condemnation

For only being me

            I live in shadows,

No one can see in through to me

            Secret aim for happiness –

Just one time where I can be free

But I can’t reach out with the arms that long to hold you close to me

They’re trapped inside, victims of the game we call society

But even if I could with no consequences, I would leave you be

I’m assuming you’re not to be had, at least not by me

But assumption is the excuse for not going after our dreams

I can live through their venom and acid undertones

My great achievement will be coming into my own

With no faintheartedness, I’ll be strong

I’ll be what I should have been all along

And I will reach out with the arms that long to hold you close to me

No more trapped inside, fearless of the game we call society

And it don’t matter if there’ll be consequences, I won’t leave you be

I won’t assume that you’re not to be had, I’ll have you for me

‘Cause assumption is the excuse for not going after our dreams

Perhaps things will be difference than what I see, I’ll be free to be free

And I’ll smile forever knowing I conquered my wildest dreams
