Description of Submission:
"A True Story" - A sotry of my upbringing in Albion.

"Self Portrait" - A series of four images.  - Jordan

Biography: Jordan is a sophomore at UC Berkeley.  He is looking to major in Environment Science and Policy & Management.  He will be traveling around the world for a year through BostonUniversity, to put together a documentary photography project about queer communites in developping countries.  His interests include photography, social justice and environmental awareness.

Why Karen and Melody Liked It:  We liked "A True Story" becuase it was a simple story about how Jordan's mom defended her child at a young age. "Self Portrait" was unique way to show the same person in different gender identities.
A True Story

I was only doing the usual.. I was only being myslef.  To do otherwise would be hard;  growing up deep in a redwood forest away from television, billboard advertisements, and constant mobs of diverse people.

It was an average day in Albion, as some neighborhood kids and I were playing dress-up.  (Any excuse to put on a dress, a skirt, or to play around with mom's make-up.  Mom was sitting at the coffee table, conversing with a close neighbor.  Marry had known me from birth, and was observing me in my dress playing with the other little girls, and said "maybe all he needs is a psychologist...bringing Jordan to conseling once a week may help him find his place...All these girls are getting to him..."

My mother set down her coffee and looked Marry in the eyes, with a slight feeling of concern and disconetent.."My son is only four years old, he is young and innocent.  He is only acting on something deeply rooted, innate, within himself.  What he shows is truth, Jordan is only being himself...Frankly the only person in this room demonstrating any need of therapy is yourself.."

Thank you Mommy,
for helping me find myself,
Jordan Joel Pennock
