Description of Submission:
"Matching Shoes"-  This is the final piece to my project about the many repressions of homosexuality.   It is also a chalk pastel drawing.  I wanted to show that gay people are normal, we do love, are in committed, long term relationships.  I basically wanted to show that we are real people with real feelings.  As are the things that cause us to repress who we are.  These are real problems and I want to help change them.

"The Closet Struggle" - This is a chalk pastel drawing also part of my project about the many repressions of homosexuality.  Again here in Utah, mormonism is the main religion.  I have dated people and have friends that have struggled with coming out because of the religion they have belieed all their lives.  The image on the left shows the electroschock therapy that is still used by the religion to "turn" people straight.  The image on the right shows the double lives that gay mormons often lie; the spouse, family, and religion on one side, and the gay relationships, etc on the other." - Heidi

Biography: Heidi is a junior attending University of Utah.  She is majoring in Art Education.  She would like to be an art teacher in the future.  Her interests includedrawing or painting.

Why Karen and Melody Liked It:  We liked "Matching Shoes" as it showcased the older generation gay couple.  We liked "The Closet Struggle" as it showed the double life that people may live.
