Best Song

“Drop”

By  Nicole Halsey - NY

Desciption of Submission: “Love song, projecting my anger for having to hide my love because it’s different from how everyone thinks I should love.  Also, I can’t play an instrument as well as my Father in Law, so I told him how I want the music, and I sang the vocals.  I’ve projected what I’ve gone through with my girlfriend on the train, and pretty much everywhere else.  The escape that I’m talking about in the song refers to our power of voice and our ability to make change of our world.  At one point people of a different religion, race, even social background couldn’t date, or be married.  I feel that since those times have changed, why can’t these times of intolerance?  We just need to speak up and make moves.” - Nicole

Why Karen and Melody Liked It:  This was a beautiful song with a great upbeat fun melody.

We’re on the train; it’s 10 P.M., now holding hands seems like a bad idea.

But hey, all the other couples seem happy, kissing not missing a caress at all.

It’s not fair, it makes me mad, all the fun we could’ve had, kissing face in public.

So what, who are they to tell us who we shouldn’t date and tel us our lives are mistakes

It just ain’t right

But why must it be this way?

Why must I keep my arms at bay?

Why can’t I kiss you whenever, where I want?  (Whoa)

Must I drop my head in shame

Cuz I can’t marry the person I choose

No baby, I’m gonna love you anyway

I wanna drop outta sight, outta mind

I wann make an escape

Bridge (Guitar solo)

We’re on the couch, hugging, watching TV

Which turns out to be a bad idea

We’re ridiculed, a fashion trend, hypocrysy it doesn’t end

Fallacies of us being less than human

We’re not less than human

So don’t rule us out like we are

Baby,

But why must it be this way?

Why must I keep my arms at bay?

Why can’t I kiss you whenever, wherever I want? (Whoa)

Must I drop my head in shame

Cuz I can’t marry the person I choose

No baby, I’m gonna love you anyway

I wanna drop outta sight, outta mind

I wanna make an escape

Screw them!  They base humanity on a person’s sexuality

They preach and scold but their rules have nothing to do with me

They can’t comprehend my life is mine and mine alone

Let our voice hug the clouds, (so) say it loud

Why must it be this way?

Why must I keep my love at bay?

Why can’t I kiss you whenever, wherever I want (Whoa)

Must I drop my head in shame

Cuz I can’t marry the person I choose?

No babe, I’m gonna love you anyway.

I wanna drop outta sight, Don’t you mind

I’m gonna make an escape

Why must it be this way

Why must we keep our love at bay?

Why can’t I kiss you whenever, wherever I want? (Whoa)

Not gonna drop my head in shame

Though I can’t marry the person I choose

Baby, I’m gonna love you anyway

I wanna drop outta sight, it’s about the time

For me to make our escape
