Best Poem

A Place and Time”

By Noah Schnaubelt

Desciption of Submission: “One of my favorites.  I still wasn’t quite out, but I saw one sunny day two guys in the distance holding hands, and I was quietly struck, and filled with hope.” – Noah

Why Karen and Melody Liked It: We liked the way it shows that there is hope for the future for gay relationships
to be considered normal.

The other day I saw:

hand in hand:

man and man.

The joy in knowing

what I can be

when I am ready

knows no bounds.

Walking down the street,

souls and faces

I would like to meet,

now can be reassured

there will be a place and time.

The other day I saw:

hand in hand,

man and man.

Feeling free

I want to shout out,

happy,

it’s a sign this

world is moving out

of bigotry

and letting be.

Trapped inside,

my mind’s

confusion and illusions

lies I weave in.

But see these braver souls

cut loose and

show and share their love

to all the world.

What an inspiration

what a jolt to

blast some faith back in

my heart,

now reassured

there will be a place and time.

The other day I saw:

hand in hand,

man and man.

Love and love

not caring

not needing to be scared.

What a sense of sharing;

quiet joy

I can feel just watching

them pass down the street.

Knowing this is

where the world is

heading:

letting people—

human beings—

love and wander free.

Hidden in myself,

so hard,

loneliness and

nothing else

but watch as like souls

cross the street and

what rejuvenation;

Hope; It shines

through,

fills my heart

and keeps me steady,

helps me to remember

when I’m ready

there will be a place and time.

Just the other day I saw:

hand in hand,

man and man.

I sigh and smile,

worthwhile memory

keep it real,

blessed is this place

where love can

be shown free.

Arm in arm

despite the scars of history,

no proud display

or runaways

but simply walking,

loving

living open in the day.

What intense sublime

devotion,

sets in motion thoughts

of knowing that for me

as well,

Here and

growing elsewhere too,

there will be a place and time.
