Best Poem

“Dear Lord”

By La Toya White

Desciption of Submission: “This poem contains the prayer of a person who goes to the Lord asking for help because he/she is not accepted by the world.  It contains both the prayer of this person as well as God’s response to the situation from a biblical  sense.” – La Toya

Why Karen and Melody Liked It: We liked the conversation with God in the poem, especially interesting was God’s response.

(My Prayer)

Dear Lord,

I hide in a closet, secluded from the world

Because they don’t accept my differences.

But I can only be me – this is my life,

I’m happy,

How come they don’t see?

They accept liars,

Will defend a murderer at all costs.

But when it comes to my preferences,

I have no freedom of choice.

Everyone’s a sinner, Lord

Isn’t that what you said?

That “All men fall short..”

And our purpose is to sin less.

The problem is this:

I’m not accepted and I don’t understand why

People hate and discriminate

And give me the evil eye.

I am your child, Lord.

How come the world doesn’t discuss that?

They rather poke at my faults and lok at me differently

And spread rumors about this and about that.

I’m gay, Lord

Yes,

I”ll just go ahead and admit it.

This has to be the greatest sin of all,

Because if not – it sure is the most hated.

(God’s Reply)

What is this you tell me?

About you hiding in a closet to escape the world?

I didn’t make you in the image of darkness.

I need your light to shine upon the world.

Of course the world won’t accept you

Neither did they accept me

But I gave you wisdom and the freedom of choice;

So now, choose right by me.

Yes, my child

“For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God”

But no sin is greater than the next;

Ask from within your heart and soul

And I shall forgive them all.

I’m glad you addressed your problem, my child

And you did so in a mature way

But for every problem, there’s a solution

Are you ready to make yours today?

Ask and you shall receive…

Seek and you shall find…

Now let me turn and ask you this.

Is it your will that you want or mines?
