“Some Like It Straight” Anonymous |
Desciption of Submission: “A poem that portrays homosexuality as
simply another character trait.” - Anonymous

Some like
it straight: When they
draw their lines They whip
out their rulers; I don’t use
mine. My lines
are squiggles, They’re
curvy and strange, But nobody
cares About lines
on a page. They let me
draw the way I want, Whether my
lines are straight-edged or not. Some like
it straight: Their
coffee is black. With sugar
or cream They’d spit
it right back. But I can’t
stand coffee It’s
boring, it’s bland, Unless we
add something To make it
taste grand. They let me
drink in my own way. My coffee
is milky brown each day. Some like
it straight: They put
woman with man, And no one
can change Their
“perfect” plan. Women are
great, But at the
end of the day, I just bend The other
way. They let me
draw my squiggly lines, They let me
dilute my coffee with cream. So why is
it now that they suddenly seem To care if
I choose their straightened way, Or to
squiggle, to sweeten, and choose to be gay? |
