“My Daddy Wears a Dress”

By Venus Hernandez - PA

Desciption of Submission: “A poem written about ‘daddy’ through a child’s eyes” - Venus

Why Karen and Melody Liked It: We liked hearing about what it’s like to have a gay dad.

My daddy wears a dress

And that is okay

He is my daddy

And I love him anyway.

My daddy is a person

Just like you and me

And I don’t care if he sleeps next to Billy.

Some kids, they have parents

Who like to argue and like to fight

But my daddy tucks me in while Billy sings me lullabies at night.

I hate when people laugh at him

I hate when they point and when they stare

My daddy is a beautiful person

When I need him, he is always there.

So stop laughing at my daddy

Who likes to wear a dress

Who cares if he’s a “happy” man

He’s still the very best.

I love you daddy.
