Jamie Carlson - MN |
Desciption of Submission: “A young girl whose parents don’t accept
her as a lesbian.” - Jamie
Why Karen and Melody Liked
It: It was a very powerful
poem of confronting one’s mom about her sexuality.

Do you think I just woke up one day, And said, “I’m a lesbian”. Do you think I just woke up one day, And said, “ I want to be
with another women”. Do you think this “stuff” is all in my head. Do you think I’m just going through a phase. Do you think what I’m feeling will pass. Do you think my mind is in a daze. You’re wrong. I know I am a lesbian. I know this is not a phase. I know these feelings won’t go away. I know my head is not in a daze If you were really my parent, You wouldn’t try to change me. If you were really my parent, You would except me for who I am. If you were really my parent, You would support me and love me no matter what. So be my parent for the first time around, I am still your baby you loved all along. |
