As a gay hispanic seventeen year old senior in high school, it may seem a bit far fetched to want to open the first bookstore-coffee shop franchise on the south side of San Antonio, especially knowing that a former South San Antonio High School student has been on The Oprah Winfrey Show and many petitions have been signed over the past few years for the opening of a bookstore on the south side, but nothing has been done. In view of the various attempts it would be expected for one to be discouraged. However, it has instead reinforced my desire to pursue this altruistic venture.
A bookstore-coffee shop franchise is the type of business that would flourish on the south side because people would appreciate it more than just another restaurant. It would be a more fulfilling experience for me to contribute to the improvements in the Hispanic community and still make a living rather than just making a living. The five or ten minute drive would also be much more convenient for people on the south side as opposed to the twenty to thirth minutes they must drive now. It is somewhat insulting to the people on the south side because they have been trying for a bookstore in their part of town for numerous years and within the past five years bookstores and coffe shops have been added at The Quarry Market, Huebner Oaks, Northwood's, and one more is being added on 1604 west which is also on the north side of town. Adding these businesses on the north side are indications that the myths about Hispanics in the academic world still exist.
Going into a career as novice would be unwise. For this reason I plan on attending The Red McCombs School of Busines at The University fo Texas at Austin. Every insight that I again will assist me with my future endeavors and prepare me for all the incumbent entrepreneurs that I will be up against.
